- שָׁדַךְPi. שִׁידֵּךְ (v. next w.) to negotiate, stipulate. Sabb.150a מְשַׁדְּכִין על … ועל התינוקוכ׳ you may stipulate on the Sabbath about girls to be betrothed, and about a boy to be taught reading or a trade. Tosef. ib. 16 (17), 22 ואין מְשַׁדְּכִין ביןוכ׳ you must not negotiate business affairs between a husband and his wife (to reconcile them) on the Sabbath. Kidd.44b והוא ששִׁדְּכוּ provided they have been negotiating (with her father). Ib. (mixed dict.) ואע״ דשִׁידְּכוּ even if they have been negotiating. Hif. הִשְׁדִּיךְ to subdue, quiet. Esth. R. s. 2, beg. (ref. to Prov. 29:11 ישבחנה) זההקב״ה שהוא מַשְׁדִּיךְוכ׳ this refers to the Lord who quieted Ahasverus (ref. to משביח, Ps. 65:8).
